Nothing I do is by my own strength alone. But. . .

Hello! I’m Matthias Bartolo, an AI researcher and developer with a background in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Computer Vision.
Most of my work is focused on Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, although I’ve also worked across areas such as Reinforcement Learning, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, Speech Technology, and Intelligent Interfaces. I enjoy learning about new areas of AI and seeing how they can be applied to real problems.
I’ve worked on a range of applied research projects, from using AI for environmental monitoring and sustainability, to cultural heritage preservation, maritime research, and sports. I particularly enjoy projects where technology can be used to solve a problem outside of technology itself.
I believe technology has a lot of potential to help people, and that it should be used to help others and give people opportunities, especially those who need them most. I’m interested in using the skills I have to build things that are useful and, in some small way, make things better for others.
My faith is also an important part of how I approach my work. I try to use the opportunities and abilities I’ve been given well, and ultimately to use them in service of others and to praise God through my work.
When I’m not working on AI, you’ll probably find me:
- 🙏 Volunteering at local religious events
- 🌳 Taking walks in nature
- 🎥 Watching classic films and series, particularly from the '60s to the '90s
- 🎬 Watching faith-based series such as The Chosen and House of David
- 🎶 Listening to everything from worship and soundtracks to rock, country, and classical music
- 📖 Studying Scripture
