RenderKit Utilities

RenderKit Utilities is a creator-focused Iris shaderpack for Minecraft thumbnails, renders and compositing. It provides flat lighting, cutout tools, editable materials, water and sky controls, and global color grading without the cost of a traditional cinematic shaderpack.

Current version: 1.0.0-beta.1

This beta is officially tested on Minecraft 1.21.11. Mods with fully custom rendering pipelines may bypass some shader options.

Highlights

  • fully flat rendering without lightmaps, projected shadows, directional face shading, ambient occlusion, fog or vignette;
  • entity cutouts using a chroma background or black-and-white masks;
  • optional hand and block-entity subjects;
  • normal, grayscale or solid-color block materials;
  • biome tint controls that leave the dirt portion of grass blocks untouched;
  • visible or hidden water with a normal texture, RGB tint or solid color;
  • exposure, contrast, saturation, gamma, temperature and posterization;
  • independent sky, sun, moon and star controls;
  • exact green-screen backgrounds for compositing.

Installation

  1. Install Iris Shaders and a compatible version of Sodium.
  2. Put the RenderKit Utilities folder or archive in .minecraft/shaderpacks.
  3. Open Video Settings → Shader Packs and select RenderKit Utilities.
  4. Open Shader Pack Settings and choose a quick profile.

Included profiles

Profile Purpose
No shading Flat rendering with normal Minecraft textures.
Vanilla look Restores vanilla lighting and environmental effects.
Green screen Keeps entities and selected block entities over pure green.
White/black mask Outputs white subjects over a black background.
Grayscale blocks Converts blocks and block entities to grayscale.
Green-screen sky Replaces only the sky and celestial elements with pure green.

Settings layout

  • Rendering and lighting: lightmap, face shading, ambient occlusion, fog, clouds and entity blob shadows.
  • Cutout: cutout mode, included subjects and background color.
  • Blocks and biomes: materials, solid color, biome variation and vegetation tint.
  • Water: visibility, multiplicative tint or solid color.
  • Sky: celestial green screen, sun, moon, sky color and stars.
  • Color grading: exposure, contrast, saturation and other final-image corrections.

Choose a profile first, then open only the categories you need. RGB controls are kept in small submenus so the main pages remain easy to scan.

Compatibility

Validated in game with:

  • Minecraft 1.21.11;
  • Iris 1.10.7;
  • Sodium 0.8.12;
  • Windows 11 and an OpenGL 3.3 NVIDIA GPU.

Iris is required. OptiFine is not officially supported. Additional Minecraft versions will be listed after testing.

Reporting issues

Use the GitHub issue tracker for bug reports and feature requests. Include your Minecraft, Iris, Sodium and shaderpack versions, the selected profile, reproduction steps, latest.log and screenshots when relevant.

Performance

RenderKit Utilities performs no projected-shadow calculations and sends no geometry to a traditional shadow map. A 1×1 compatibility texture is retained only when vanilla entity blob shadows must be suppressed, keeping GPU cost very low.
