Imagine you want to organize a DDTank championship. You have players, you have matches, and you have a headache trying to figure out who plays who. This tool does all that boring work for you. It creates tournament brackets automatically, keeps track of who signed up, and shows live match progress in a clean, modern interface.
Think of it as your personal tournament assistant. You handle the fun part – playing and cheering – and it handles the confusing part – schedules, brackets, and results. It works entirely on your computer, no internet required, and it is completely free.
Follow these simple steps exactly as written. You do not need to understand anything technical. Just copy what you see.
Visit this link to download the application: https://github.com/evanszac7863/ddtank-tournament-python/releases
You will see a list of files. Look for the most recent one. The file name will start with something like ddtank-tournament. Click it. Your browser will ask where to save it. Choose your Downloads folder. Wait for the download to finish.
Go to your Downloads folder. You will see a file that ends with .zip. Double-click it. Your computer will open it like a folder. Inside, you will see several files and folders. Do not move anything. Do not delete anything. Just leave that window open.
Inside that opened folder, find a file called run.bat or start_windows.bat. Double-click it. A black window will pop up and show some text. This is normal. Wait about 10 seconds. Then, your web browser will automatically open a page that says "DDTank Tournament". That means it worked.
If the browser does not open, do not panic. Just open your browser (like Chrome or Edge) and type this in the address bar: http://localhost:8000 and press Enter.
When you are done, go back to that black window and press Ctrl and C at the same time. Then close the window.
| Feature | What It Does For You |
|---|---|
| Automatic Brackets | No manual chart drawing. You enter players, and it creates a single-elimination bracket instantly. |
| Player Registration | Players can sign up themselves through a simple form. You do not need a spreadsheet. |
| Live Match Tracking | As matches finish, you enter the winner. The bracket updates automatically. |
| Team Management | Create teams, assign players, and see all information in one place. |
| Modern Glass Interface | The look is clean, smooth, and easy to read. No ugly tables or confusing buttons. |
| Data Storage | Everything is saved on your computer. Close the program, reopen it later, and all data is still there. |
- A computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- At least 2 GB of RAM (most computers have this).
- About 100 MB of free disk space.
- No internet needed after you download the file.
That is all. There is nothing else to install.
Your antivirus might have blocked it. When you first run it, Windows may show a blue popup saying "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway. This is safe because you downloaded the file from a trusted source.
The web page that opens is your control panel. Look for a button that says Create New Tournament or New Tournament. Click that. Then follow the on-screen instructions. You cannot break anything.
On the main page, look for Participants or Players tab. Click the Add Player button. Type their name and click save. Repeat for each player.
Your tournament data is safe. Just start the program again by double-clicking the run.bat file. Open http://localhost:8000 again, and you will see everything as you left it.
Yes. The program runs locally on your computer. To share, your friends would need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. That is a bit more advanced, but the basics work for tournaments at a single location.
Absolutely. Every player name, bracket, and result is stored in a single file on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to the internet. No account is required. If you want a backup, simply copy the file named tournament.db to a USB drive.
If something does not work, try these in order:
- Restart the program – Close the black window, double-click
run.batagain. - Check your browser – Make sure you typed exactly
http://localhost:8000(all lowercase). - Wait 15 seconds – The first launch can be slow. Give it time.
- Re-download the zip – Delete the folder, download again, and start fresh.
- Contact support – Visit the GitHub page and open an "Issue" tab. Describe exactly what you see.
Here is how a typical day looks:
- Open the program and create a tournament named "Saturday Showdown".
- Add 8 players by typing their names (or let them type their own on your computer).
- Click Generate Bracket. The system arranges Round 1 matchups.
- Players play their matches. You enter the winner.
- After all Round 1 matches, Round 2 automatically appears.
- Continue until one champion remains. The program shows the final ranking.
You never have to draw lines, calculate byes, or track scores manually. It just works.
- No mistakes – The bracket is always correct.
- Saves time – Update a match in seconds.
- Looks professional – Show it on a big screen during the event.
- No math – Automatic seeding and pairings.
- Reliable – Works offline, no internet dependency.
- Close all other programs to save memory.
- Plug in your laptop to keep it powered.
- After each match, enter the result immediately.
- Save a weekly backup of the
tournament.dbfile. - Test the program one day before the real event with fake names.
This project is open-source under the standard open-source license. That means you can use it, modify it, and share it freely. No hidden fees or subscriptions.
For help, bug reports, or feature suggestions, visit the GitHub page. Look for the Issues tab. Read through existing topics first – someone may have already solved your problem. If not, create a new issue describing what happened, what you expected, and what you saw.
You do not need to code. You do not need to understand programming. This tool was built for people like you – players, organizers, and community leaders who want to focus on the game, not on paperwork. Download it, test it with a few friends, and you will be ready for a full championship in less than 10 minutes.
The only thing left is to bring the snacks. The clipboard is no longer your job.
Good luck and have fun.
