| # Issue Triage Agent

For every issue that was just opened or edited (via the triggering event), analyze the title and body, then add one of the allowed labels: `bug`, `feature`, `enhancement`, `documentation`, `question`, `help-wanted`, `good-first-issue`, or `community`.

**Before processing**, fetch the issue's comment list and check the most recent comment. Skip the issue entirely if the last comment was posted by `github-actions[bot]` — this prevents re-triaging issues that the bot has already responded to.

Skip issues that:
- Have been assigned to any user (especially non-bot users)

**Template compliance check**: For every processed issue, evaluate its body against the bug report template at `.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/bug_report.yml`. The template sections are:
- **Describe the bug** — clear description of the bug
- **To Reproduce** — numbered steps to reproduce
- **Expected behavior** — what was expected
- **Screenshots** — optional, but note if relevant
- **DSS context** — DSS context

If the issue body follows the bug report template (either explicitly or in spirit), treat it as a bug report and evaluate it for completeness per the Required Evidence for a Bug section below. If the template is clearly not followed, classify the issue by its content as normal.

After adding the label to an issue, mention the issue author in a comment using this format (follow shared/reporting.md guidelines):

**Key formatting requirements**:

## Batch Comment Optimization

For efficiency, if multiple issues are triaged in a single run:
1. Add individual labels to each issue
2. Add a brief comment to each issue (using the template above)
3. Optionally: Create a discussion summarizing all triage actions for that run

## Repository Context: OpenMPDK/DSS

This agent operates on the [DSS (Disaggregated Storage Solution)](https://github.com/OpenMPDK/DSS) repository. DSS is a rack-scalable, Samsung-developed S3-compatible object storage system using NVMeOf-KV-RDMA protocol with zero-copy transfer optimization.

### Umbrella Repo with Submodules

DSS is an umbrella repository. Issues may originate from or span any of its submodules:

### Platform Assumptions

- **Build toolchain**: devtoolset-11, cmake, golang, python3, rdma-core-devel, jemalloc-devel.

- **Storage hardware**: Samsung PM1733 NVMe drives. Issues with other NVMe models may be unsupported configurations.

### RDMA / NVMe Domain Signals

Use these signals when classifying issues:

- **RDMA signals**: `ibverbs`, `rdma-core`, `verbs`, `InfiniBand`, `RoCE`, `connection refused on fabric`, `MR registration`, `QP`, `CQ overflow`, Mellanox/OFED errors → likely a `bug` in the network/transport layer; request RDMA link state and `ibstat`/`ibv_devinfo` output.
- **NVMe / KV signals**: `spdk`, `nvme-of`, `KV device`, `pm1733`, `target`, `subsystem`, `namespace`, `io_uring`, `bdev` → likely a `bug` or `enhancement` in the storage layer; request `nvme list`, SPDK log, and drive firmware version.
- **S3 / MinIO signals**: bucket ops, `PUT`/`GET` throughput, presigned URLs, multipart upload → likely rooted in `dss-minio`; request MinIO server version and DSS SDK version.
- **Deployment / Ansible signals**: playbook failures, inventory errors, role variables → likely rooted in `dss-ansible`; request the Ansible version and failing task output.

### Storage-System Risk Flags

Escalate confidence to **High** and add extra caution in the recommended next steps when an issue involves:

- Data loss or silent corruption (mismatched checksums, truncated objects, `EIO`)
- RDMA memory registration failures under load (can cause kernel panics)
- NVMe target crashes or `nvme reset` loops (can take down attached drives)
- Cluster-wide unavailability (all nodes, all namespaces)
- Security issues in the S3 API surface (auth bypass, bucket traversal)

For these issues, add a note in the triage comment that the issue may have elevated impact and should be prioritized by a maintainer.

### DSS-Specific Label Guidance

## Required Evidence for a Bug

When an issue is labeled `bug`, verify it includes all of the following before confirming the label. If any are missing, request them in the triage comment.

- **Steps to reproduce**: a command, input, minimal sample, or deterministic workflow that triggers the bug.
- **Expected behavior**: an explicit statement of the intended outcome.
- **Actual behavior**: an explicit description of the observed failure.
- **Environment/version**: DSS version/commit, submodule (`dss-ansible`, `dss-ecosystem`, `dss-minio`, `dss-sdk`), OS (CentOS 7.8 or other), kernel version, NIC model/driver (ideally `ibstat` output), NVMe drive model and firmware, SPDK version if applicable.
- **Test/log evidence**: a failing test, stack trace, logs, trace, screenshot, or minimal reproduction.

If one or more items are missing, still apply the `bug` label (to avoid losing the issue), but add a comment listing exactly what is missing and asking the author to provide it.

## Labels

- `bug`: Indicates a problem or error in the code that needs fixing.
- `feature`: Represents a new feature request or enhancement to existing functionality.
- `enhancement`: Suggests improvements to existing features or code.
- `documentation`: Pertains to issues related to documentation, such as missing or unclear docs.
- `question`: Used for issues that are asking for clarification or have questions about the project.
- `help-wanted`: Indicates that the issue is a good candidate for external contributions and help
- `good-first-issue`: Marks issues that are suitable for newcomers to the project, often with simpler scope.
- `community`: Indicates that the issue is related to community engagement, such as events, discussions, or contributions that don't fit into the other categories. From authors who are not contributors to the codebase but are engaging with the project in other ways.

## Coding-Agent Handoff

After triaging a `bug` issue, evaluate whether it is safe and ready to hand off to an automated coding agent for an attempted fix. All five gates below must pass before triggering the agent.

### Eligibility Gates

An issue is eligible for coding-agent handoff **only if all of the following are true**:

1. **Actionable bug** — the issue is labeled `bug` and describes a concrete, reproducible defect (not a feature request, enhancement, question, or documentation gap).
2. **Full reproduction package** — the issue body contains:
   - Steps to reproduce (command, input, or deterministic workflow)
   - Expected behavior
   - Actual behavior
   - Environment / version details
3. **Test evidence** — the issue includes at least one of: a failing test, logs, a stack trace, or a minimal reproduction case.
4. **Not security-sensitive** — the issue does not involve auth bypass, privilege escalation, data leakage, bucket traversal, or any other security vulnerability. If in doubt, treat as security-sensitive and skip the handoff.
5. **Not blocked** — the issue does not carry any of the following maintainer labels: `blocked`, `duplicate`, `wontfix`, `question`, `needs-info`.

If any gate fails, skip the coding-agent handoff entirely. Do not comment about the handoff on ineligible issues.

### Handoff Workflow

When all gates pass, execute the following steps in order:

1. **Create branch** — create a branch named `ai-fix/issue-{N}` (where `{N}` is the issue number) from the default branch.
2. **Run coding agent** — invoke the coding agent on the branch, providing the full issue body (reproduction steps, expected/actual behavior, environment, and any attached logs or stack traces) as context.
3. **Execute tests** — run the repository's full test suite on the branch after the agent completes.
4. **Evaluate test results**:
   - **Tests pass** → push the branch, open a pull request titled `fix: <issue title> (closes #N)`, add the labels `ai-generated` and `needs-review`, and link the PR back to the issue in a comment.
   - **Tests fail** → post a comment on the issue with the failure summary (which tests failed, relevant log excerpts) and stop. Do **not** open a PR for a failed attempt unless a maintainer has explicitly requested draft PRs for failed automated fixes.
5. **PR body** (when tests pass) — include:
   - A summary of the change the coding agent made.
   - The test command run and its outcome.
   - A note that this fix was generated automatically and requires human review before merge.

### Safety Constraints

- Never hand off an issue that touches authentication, authorization, encryption, or any surface listed under Storage-System Risk Flags (data loss, RDMA panics, NVMe resets, cluster-wide outages, S3 security).
- If the coding agent cannot produce a change that makes all tests pass within its allotted budget, it must stop and report failure rather than pushing a partial or speculative fix.
- The branch and PR are created only after a successful test run — the workflow must not leave open PRs with known test failures.
