💡 What: Removed inline try...except blocks within spatial loops in initialize_paper_ecm, create_paper_cell, safe_cell_removal, and check_ecm_contact and replaced them with explicit 0 <= x < self.dim.x boundary checks.
🎯 Why: In CompuCell3D (CC3D) Python scripts, throwing exceptions due to out-of-bounds SWIG object lookups (e.g., self.cell_field) incurs significant computational overhead, especially when embedded in tightly nested spatial loops.
📊 Impact: Expected to reduce execution time for the modified methods. Benchmarking safe_cell_removal indicated a significant performance bottleneck due to the try-except boundary handling mechanism.
🔬 Measurement: Run the CC3D simulation to measure step time. Alternatively, one could extract safe_cell_removal into a benchmark loop and observe faster execution. Tested bounds replacement manually, which ran successfully.
