I was honestly extremely hesitant to implement this because of the time it would take, but today I felt inspired and decided to sit down and work on it. Honestly, it wasn't so bad. I do admit that I like the look of Noctalia, and I'm much happier with the config behavior, unlike DankMaterialShell, which required me to copy the config in-place. I also like that Noctalia supports a custom palette that I could hook Stylix into. I haven't removed DankMaterialShell just yet, but I don't think I'll be going back so it might be removed soon. I suppose I can now say I'm running the NNN stack (NixOS, Niri, Noctalia)..

Hello there! A new staging cycle has been started up. The last cycle was 2026-06-18 -> 2026-07-16.
I've made a pre-order for the newest Framework 13 Pro. I'm very excited to see it arrive. The current estimation is that it arrives in a few months, and when it does, I'll have to spend some time getting it setup for my configuration. My current laptop will be retired once the new laptop arrives. That day hasn't come yet, but it will be coming soon.
Initially, I wasn't going to implement Noctalia, but I felt inspired and decided to replace DankMaterialShell. Initial impressions are positive, and I likely will keep it as my new permanent desktop shell implementation. From what I understand, it's still in open beta, but it's still quite feature complete, and I am more than happy to use it.
