Shaders cause the game to freeze partially/screen flicker when loading certain models (Fabric 26.2)

Some models load just fine with shaders, but for some reason, loading some cause the following bugs:

after enabling shaders, any of them:
game visually freezes, but somehow you can still interact with menus and the world itself
quitting and re-entering fullscreen causes the screen to flicker non-stop, or go totally black
pressing the toggle shaders button have no effect, unless quitting and re-entering fullscreen mode, which returns everything to normal
pressing toggle shaders on window mode does freeze the game too

I'm encountering this issue on models that include glowing parts. My model only has glowing parts on the custom player head it and makes the game flicker like this only when the player head item is spawned in.
