Connection is lost over and over

I've been using Syncplay for a while now but today when I tried to watch a movie with my friend, we joined the same room but we couldn't see each other's name in the room and we also kept getting connection error:

Is this a problem from our side or there is something wrong with the app?

Thanks for the report. I just tried connecting to syncplay.pl:8997 on Syncplay 1.7.6 on Windows client and everything worked fine.

Could you please provide a few more details so we can determine whether this is a client, server, or network issue?

• Which Syncplay version and operating system are both users running?
• Was it an official Syncplay public server or a private server? If public, what port? If private, what version of Syncplay was it running?
• What country or counties are you connecting from?
• Did you both see the same repeated connection error?
• Does the issue still occur after updating both clients to Syncplay 1.7.6? See: https://github.com/Syncplay/syncplay/releases/tag/v1.7.6
• Are you both with the same ISP? (It might be a specific temporary routing issue)
• Are you using any VPN or firewall that might be causing problems?
• If you run with --debug command line switch, does anything revealing show up in the %APPDATA%.syncplay.log file?
• If you use SyncplayConsole.exe rather than Syncplay.exe does the problem still occur?

2. Yes it was the public servers, actually all of them
3. We are connecting from England

Ok, just tested version 1.7.6 and unfortunately the problem still remains

@Space-00 Thanks that's really valuable. We've now made all ports other than 8995 ipv4 only. Can you please connect on syncplay.pl:8995 and syncplay.pl:8996 and tell me which if any of these ports work.

Both said: Successfully reached syncplay.pl
but then both showed: Connection with server lost, attempting to reconnect

and this repeats, over and over
connection is lost and comes back, lost and comes back........

Thanks for testing that. Since the connection works for me using the same public server, this may be specific to your computer, network route, or local security software.

Additional things you could try

1. Start Syncplay with a clean temporary configuration (e.g. download the portable version of Syncplay 1.7.6) then use a simple manually typed username and room, and no media selected. If this doesn't work using the main client, try again using the console version, e.g. SyncplayConsole.exe --host syncplay.pl:8996 --name ThomasTest --room DalegTest --player-path "C:\path\to\mpv.exe" --debug with the path changed to your media player path.
2. Connect using your mobile phone internet tethered (e.g. as a WiFi hotpsot) to see if it is an ISP issue.
3. Try a different media player, e.g. mpv.net.

5. Try running your own server, following the instructions at: https://syncplay.pl/guide/server/ and the connecting to localhost (and if that works your friend can connect to your IP depending on your firewall and port forwarding settings).

Also, approximately how long is it between “Secure connection established” and each disconnection? Does it disconnect almost immediately, or after a consistent delay such as around 12 seconds?

Hi! I've been having the same issue for a couple months.

Version and OS: 1.7.6-1, arch linux (installed through pacman)
Server: was the official public server, all of the ports gave me the issue

I'm realising just now that I had a firewall (ufw) on. I disabled ufw and now syncplay seems to connect to the server without throwing any errors. Will test it out properly within a couple days!
Now gotta figure out an ufw rule to allow syncplay to connect (I know this is not the scope of the thread, but lmk if you have ideas).

I'm up for providing extra logs n info if needed!

EDIT: am confused: I re-enabled the firewall and now I can't reproduce the issue anymore. it's still working even with ufw enabled
