applyAllPatches task fails almost instantly with strange error

I have been trying to compile LegitSlimePaper on my Arch Linux system (yes I use arch btw). After cloning the Github repo, I ran the command './gradlew applyAllPatches' as the README says to do. The command failed at the initialization stage and showed the following error:

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

* What went wrong:
26.0.1

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Turns out this is because my Java version was too new. I have opened a pull request for this repository (#36) to warn users.
